This shit always happens to me. I'm on my way to (finally) finishing a story (this time it's Heavenbound) and a huge idea for a new one comes (this happened when I was going to finish Everybody Wants Ryan, but Heavenbound was the new intruder). Then what?

First Scenario: I follow my gut instinct and start writing the new story. Chances are I'll,
a) Get too much into it, want to write more, forget about the one that needs finishing.
b) Swamp myself with "work" by trying to write two (or more! it has happened) stories at once.

Second Scenario: I follow my head's wise advice and finish the first story. In this case I'll most likely,
a) Forget important details about the new idea. I write down most of it but something still leaks.
b) Forget about the hype I had while I was getting bombed by the new idea. This would make it harder to write later.

Usually I wind up doing the First Scenario, part b. But it's not easy! It delays the finishing of the first idea. I know this from experience.

You see, I got this Romance story idea I'm dying to write!! Absolutely can't wait to write it. It's set in Montreal!

But... hey, I'm not Canadian!!

Hey, this happens to me ALL THE TIME too. I usually write a few paragraphs of my potental 15-to-short-stories and then return to my "novel" :)
The paragraphs are usualy fresh with ideas, but then again, when I return to the big story, I usually forget all about the short stories...maybe I'll go where the wind takes me next time and go onto a completely different tangent..
I haven't read Heavenbound, shall check it out.
-love,

You know, thinking about it this is a discipline problem. We oughtta fix this. I guess it's fine as long as you don't leave stories unfinished and readers hanging though.
